Different Types of Pitches
|
Curve Ball- Grip the ball with your middle and index
fingers together, with the fingers across the seams
of the ball at the widest part (the widest distance
between the seams). Keep a tight grip on the ball,
especially with the middle finger. Don’t let the ball
touch the palm of your hand, or you won’t generate
enough topspin, which is what allows the ball to drop
when it gets close to home plate.
Knuckle Ball- Grip the baseball by clenching the
top of the ball with the tips of your index, middle
and ring fingers just below the seams. Dig the tips
of your fingers deep into the ball.
Place your thumb below the ball to give it support.
Keep your pinkie off to the side.
Go into your windup. Remember to pivot and shift
your body weight from the back foot forward toward
home plate. Throw the ball toward home, but don't
snap your wrist - keep it stable, eliminating as much
spin as possible.
Follow through. Extend all fingers toward home
plate as you release the pitch. Your feet should be
parallel at the end of the pitch, and your throwing
arm should come across the front of your body.
2 Seam Fast Ball- Grip the ball along the seams
with your index and middle fingers so that viewed
from the front the seams form a U-shape. If your
hand is big enough, leave your pinkie off the ball,
and put your thumb underneath the ball, you
should have your ring finger on the side of the
ball. Go into your windup, and hide how you are
gripping the ball in your glove. Follow through, and
snap your wrist down for good velocity, this will
also keep the ball down, where hitters will pop up
or ground out.
Change up- Keep up your fastball arm speed,
otherwise you won't get the full splitter action as it
comes to the plate.
Keep your wrist loose, again to get the full extent
of the splitter movement.
Keep the "Circle" made by your thumb and pointer
finger small. This one I figured out myself, it needs
to be small and only hold onto the ball a little bit,
so that the pitch comes out of your hand easily.
Otherwise, you won't get the same action.
Place the baseball between your middle and ring
fingers instead of the index and middle fingers.
Throw it with fastball arm speed but pronate it a
little to get downward spin on it.
Keep practicing and
you will keep getting
better!!!
